Our Story

The Green Seam creates unique, handmade clothing using a range of natural and sustainable fibres including bamboo, hemp and organic cotton. All clothing is 100% handmade with love in Burringbar, Australia. My clothing is created for versatility, comfort and easy living using natural earthy tones and beautiful natural fabrics that are breathable, soft and comfortable to do life in.

The Green Seam was established back in 2000 with the vision of creating unique, handmade clothing with an individual style. To create items of clothing that you could not find in a store, that was handmade with love in Australia and not mass-produced.It all started in my early 20's travelling around Australia in my van, ohh the van life! Being free without a care in the world was the best feeling, no responsibilities, just to see where the wind takes you, free. Seeing the sites of outback Australia made me appreciate this amazing landscape and i'm so grateful to have experienced this. I loved to travel but my passion has always been fashion in some way. Creating clothing that I couldn't find, going to the markets to hunt down those epic second hand bargains or scouring through op shop racks on the hunt for that special unique piece. So I decided to combine my love for travel and my love for fashion, and The Green Seam was born. Garments were made, the van was packed ready for markets and festivals, that was my life for years!I was very fortunate to be taught how to sew by my mother and grandmother. Growing up there was always some type of craft project going on at our house. I didn't actually realise it at the time but I was learning amazing skills that would shape my future. My Mum and I would go shopping for clothes but we wouldn't shop for actual clothes, we would check out the designs and my Mum would sketch them out over a cup of tea. We would then go to the fabric store and pick fabrics that were similar to what we had seen in the stores. For my birthday or Christmas I would get a pile of beautiful handmade clothing just like what was in the store but so much better because they were made just for me by my Mum. I really appreciate the skills that I was taught and will cherish those memories forever.I am very passionate about Australian made clothing and believe this is an industry that needs help, support and knowledge. Natural fibres are extremely important for us as wearers and for the planet and I am very excited to be a part of this change.
